It is a thin, flatbread shaped by hand or machine and then baked on an ungreased skillet. It is the most famous Mexican bread. It is sometimes eaten alone, but anyone can make tortillas to suit any taste.
Mexican Tortillas
For homemade tortillas, wrap the tortillas in aluminum foil. Cover them with a kitchen towel. You can store them in an airtight container, Ziploc bag, or similar in the refrigerator for several days. If you don’t use the tortillas immediately, keep them in their original packaging. You can store them at room temperature, but be sure to note the expiration date. They can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. If you freeze them, their shelf life extends to three months. You can encase the original boxes in aluminum foil.
Better yet, you can also set them in an aluminum bag. Then freeze them for the entire time. To check softened tortillas from draining out, deposit them in an airtight container. Frozen tortillas should be thawed in the refrigerator for at least one day before use. They should also not be prepared in the microwave.
Mexican Food with Cornmeal
Taco is a Mexican dish that uses corn tortillas. Tacos are a typical Mexican meal that consists of a tortilla wrapped with a filling. Quesadilla is a Mexican dish made primarily of cheese in a tortilla with corn and cooked until the cheese melts. Sometimes the cheese is mixed with another ingredient to give the food a different flavor. Quesadilla means “cheese tortilla” in Spanish. Tamales and atole are two other Mexican dishes that use cornmeal. Atole – Atole, a hot Mexican drink made from cornmeal, is a traditional Mexican dish. Champurrado is very similar to chocolate atole. This drink is made with masa (cornmeal), water, piloncillo, unrefined sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and chocolate or fruit. The mixture is stirred and heated before serving. Tamales – Tamales are made from cornmeal that is steamed in banana or corn husks. It is usually mixed with chicken or pork. Before eating, the wrapper is thrown away.
